NUU’s Commitment to Lifeline and Affordable Connectivity

By Danny Sit, April 8, 2025

In today’s digital world, access to reliable mobile technology isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. From job applications and online learning to telehealth and essential services, connectivity plays a vital role in everyday life. But for millions of low-income households, staying connected remains a challenge. That’s where Lifeline and the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) have made a difference, and NUU is proud to be part of the solution.

What is Lifeline and the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)?

    Lifeline: Ensuring Essential Connectivity

Established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Lifeline is a federal program that provides discounted phone and internet services to eligible low-income individuals. The program ensures that underserved communities can access critical digital resources, helping them stay connected for essential tasks such as:

    • Applying for jobs
    • Accessing healthcare and emergency services
    • Staying in touch with family and loved ones
    • Attending online classes and educational programs

Lifeline offers a monthly discount of up to $9.25 on phone or broadband services (or up to $34.25 for those on Tribal lands). Eligible customers can enroll through participating providers, making it easier for families and individuals to afford essential connectivity.

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP): Expanding Access (Currently Discontinued)

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was launched as an expansion of Lifeline, designed to provide additional support to low-income households. The ACP offered:

    • Up to $30/month discount on internet service (or up to $75/month for those on Tribal lands)
    •  A one-time $100 discount toward the purchase of a laptop, tablet, or smartphone

The program helped millions of households afford high-speed broadband and mobile devices, making it possible for families to stay connected to work, school, and healthcare. However, with the discontinuation of ACP funding, many families now rely solely on Lifeline to stay connected.

    NUU’s Role in Expanding Connectivity

NUU works closely with several of the largest providers in the Lifeline program such as Dish’s Gen Mobile. Our mission is not just to provide devices but to deliver custom-built mobile solutions that ensure reliable, high-quality connectivity at an accessible price.
